In just the last year, headlines noted that drug manufacturer Pfizer was to pay a criminal fine of $1.19 billion dollars as well as $1 billion in civil damage in penalties to compensate Federal healthcare officials for false claims submitted as a result of marketing Bextra and another three drugs for off label use or unapproved dosages. The three other drugs included Geodon, an anti-psychotic; Zyvox, an antibiotic; and Lyrica, an epileptic drug.
