Philadelphia Catastrophic Injury Attorneys

Catastrophic Injuries

The word catastrophic has been defined as the outcome of a dramatic action or a tragic event that causes extreme misfortune or total ruins. Other words that are synonymous with catastrophic are; disastrous, tragic and fatal.

Injuries such as amputations, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, paraplegia, quadriplegia, vision or hearing loss are just that, catastrophic, disastrous, tragic and sometimes fatal. Catastrophic injuries significantly impact the injured person, their families, and their finances. Many catastrophically injured patients are faced with life long pain, suffering, medical expenses, and treatments. Here at The Beasley Reiff Law Group, our Philadelphia catastrophic injury lawyers and highly specialized teams of nurses and doctors really do understand what you or a loved one are feeling right now and what you are faced with in the future.

We Are On Your Side

At The Beasley Reiff Law Group, we have over 90 years of collective trial experience that makes us a leader in successfully represented and winning for injured victims just like you or a loved one. In some cases, our experience and knowledge allowed us to not only obtain a recovery for the injured person, but also a spouse or parent.

Record Breaking Medical Malpractice Verdicts

In one case, attorneys with The Beasley Reiff Law Group secured the largest medical malpractice verdict in Pennsylvania history, involving an adult heart surgeon practicing on a newborn who required a relatively simple heart procedure. The surgeon was unfamiliar with the anatomy of a premature child, causing the infant to sustain brain damage and arm amputation. In another case, within weeks of a separate $100 million medical malpractice verdict, our experienced and highly talented Philadelphia medical malpractice lawyers obtained the second largest medical malpractice verdict in history in the amount of $55 million. This was a case tried against world famous physician William Norwood, M.D., who performed an unauthorized surgical procedure on Steven Gault, rendering him severely brain damaged and in permanent need of life long care.

Skirpan v. Caterpillar Inc.

On May 1, 2006, Scott Skirpan, a former Marine, was working in a landfill in Easton, Pa., when he was run over by a Caterpillar track loader. Both of Mr. Skirpan's legs were amputated below his hips. The driver of the track loader fled the scene in a panic leaving 47-year-old Skirpan bleeding to death alongside a pile of trash. Skirpan had to call 911 on his cell phone. "My leg's been amputated, my leg's been amputated," Skirpan told the 911 operator. "Help me, help me, I need a helicopter. . . Please, please, help me now."

The 911 tape was played in court during a two-week trial in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court in 2009 that ended abruptly with a settlement after the taped was played. Scott Skirpan, who lost both of his legs after the accident, as well as his right hip, and his wife received a $16.25 million settlement.

Our highly specialized and experienced medical and legal teams have fought and won for patients just like you or a family member, who were victims of personal injuries, amputations, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, paraplegia, quadriplegia, head trauma, vision or hearing loss, nursing negligence, physician negligence, failure to diagnose, burns, as well as hundreds of other catastrophic events that led to serious injuries or death.
